Climate-Ready Barcelona sets out to create innovative solutions to help cities to adapt to climate change

The European project Climate-Ready Barcelona set sail on Thursday 6th of July with the kick-off meeting of the partner organizations: ABD, Ecoserveis Association, Barcelona City Council, the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering CIMNE and Bit Genoma Digital Solutions.

Climate-Ready Barcelona seeks to assist the citizens of Barcelona to adapt and prepare to the impacts of climate change and the associated energy challenges. The project aims to provide innovative energy awareness services for users of the Energy Advisory Centers (EACs) and develop a data-driven map of household climate vulnerability to support climate-related decision-making by municipal departments.

In addition, Climate-Ready BCN will gather, analyze, and enhance various datasets to enable the city to implement climate inequality interventions that will be integrated with energy advisory actions to promote energy retrofitting of buildings and the development of energy sovereignty plans.

By combining energy awareness services, climate vulnerability mapping, and multidimensional interventions, Climate-Ready BCN aims to facilitate sustainable and proactive measures to mitigate climate change impacts and foster energy sustainability within the city.

During the kick-off meeting that took place in Barcelona, the partner organizations shared the objectives and main actions planned within each work package, from coordination, to budget or communications and the outputs and products resulting from the project: the household vulnerability map, the upgrade of My Energy App and the policy recommendations that shall be used to develop an Action Plan for Climate Change Adaptation.

The project will run until July 2025 and it’s funded by the ICLEI Action Fund.
