Urban climate resilience: How to adapt to summer heat
The Sustainable Energy Forum reaches its twenty-fifth edition in 2024 as a space for reflection on the sustainable use of energy and the promotion of a new energy culture.
This year, immersed in a change in energy culture brought about by climate change and rising temperatures, we reflect, thanks to European projects (Cooltorise and the Climate Pact), on the concept of climate resilience and debate how cities should adapt to heat waves.
And to address this, an event has been prepared for April 26 at the Francesca Bonnemaison Women’s Cultural Center in Barcelona, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A day in which the meteorologist, physicist and ambassador of the European Climate Pact Isabel Moreno will be in charge of giving the opening conference. Two round tables will then take place. The first on initiatives and programs against heat and the second on climate adaptation challenges.
Initiatives and programs to combat heat and climate adaptation challenges
In this sense, the first round table includes projects and initiatives such as the network of climate shelters in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, the Coolschools project, Cooltorise and its citizen empowerment work and the local heat adaptation programs of the Barcelona City Council.
The second table will address strategies to reduce the impact of heat on public health, the impacts of the heat island effect, the challenges of climate adaptation from the regions, local planning and actions in the face of heat and the use of AI in climate adaptation measures.
Come participate in the session and contribute your vision on how we need to rethink our cities so that they are more resilient to climate change!
