Description

SDG STRIKER aims to (1) increase the organisational capacity for good governance of grassroots sports organisations by helping them implement and communicate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and (2) develop a shared understanding of best practices before, during and after testing them, and assess their potential for replication by national sports federations and beyond national borders.

This project brings together 6 partners: three technical organisations (Ecoserveis, the Energy Institute of Johannes Kepler University and the European Football Development Network) and three UEFA football associations (Portugal, Norway and Scotland).

For the first objective, the project will gather and summarise relevant research on the sustainability aspects of the three focus areas to be implemented in the next phase: energy poverty/efficiency, photovoltaic feasibility, and more environmentally friendly turf infill. In addition, it will develop a survey aimed at grassroots football clubs to assess their current needs and practices in these areas, and provide guidance to enhance their capacities. Each country will lead a specific pilot aimed at grassroots clubs, which will be evaluated and validated at a later stage.

Knowledge transfer and transferability are also important aspects of SDG STRIKER. Therefore, for Objective 2, a set of Intellectual Outputs will be disseminated through 8 multiplier sports events and in-person meetings: (a) a practical guide on how to incorporate and communicate the SDGs within sports organisations, (b) a pilot evaluation report, (c) a strategic guide for SDG practitioners that will include policy recommendations, and (d) an innovative and engaging summary on the SDGs in sport aimed at sports club owners, facility managers and athletes. The project has a duration of 30 months and covers 6 European countries.
