Description
PlayGreen is a European project aimed at young people committed to environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change (more recently known as the climate emergency), with the aim of linking them to the world of sports to make it more sustainable and encourage them to practice physical activity.
PlayGreen means playing for the creation of sustainable sporting events contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change through young specialist volunteers or young people who want to train in climate change and the environment.
The PlayGreen methodology is being developed and tested between 2019 and 2020 in the framework of four sporting events organised by the UEFA federations of Malta, Estonia, Latvia and the Flemish part of Belgium. In each country, a comprehensive strategy is implemented to involve local stakeholders and create synergies to attract volunteers. The Federations mentor the volunteers who will have a mixed team with at least 40% women. The project will provide three tools to sports organisations so that other sports organisations can carry out sustainable events and/or have material to learn about the subject.

Ecoserveis participation
At Ecoserveis we train and disseminate knowledge about energy and volunteering to those responsible for sporting events, with the aim that they can apply it in their day-to-day work.
Objectives
- Involve young people interested in the environment and climate change in creating sustainable sporting events
- Increase commitment to sustainability by sports organizations and their followers
- Encourage young people interested in sustainability to play sports.
- Help young people develop skills and capabilities within the framework of sustainable development that will be useful to them in their professional lives.
- Increase women’s participation in sporting events.
