Description
Green Coach is a European project that aims to improve the governance of grassroots sports associations through improved environmental governance. Through the development of digital monitoring and certification tools, a series of educational modules aimed at technical and sports staff and a set of tailor-made actions, football federations from five European countries seek to incorporate sustainability criteria into the day-to-day operations of their grassroots clubs.
These pilot programs will be developed in five European countries between 2020 and 2022: France, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania and the French-speaking part of Belgium. The other two strategic partners are TDM2000, specialized in education aimed at young people, and the Sant’Anna School of Higher Studies, which is primarily responsible for the methodological aspects and the comparative study of before and after the interventions in the clubs.
At Ecoserveis, the project leader, we believe that the sports industry has had and still has a great responsibility for environmental pollution and the impact on the climate crisis, especially with regard to the transport of both the technical team and the players, as well as the club’s supporters and followers. Although, over time, the sector has more widely recognized this historical responsibility, today the actions have mainly focused on major international sporting events. In other words, there has been practically no intervention in the day-to-day life of the clubs, nor have ways been found to replicate the international model in the local context because the needs are different.
From this project we propose an intuitive and easy-to-use digital tool so that those clubs who want to can monitor their consumption, identify losses and act accordingly based on the results observed. We believe that thanks to this tool, called GreenTool, grassroots clubs will be able to save money and at the same time contribute to the fight against the climate crisis. Depending on their capacity for improvement, federations will obtain a distinctive seal called GreenSeal. To promote this tool, a communication campaign will be developed that will serve to multiply its use among other clubs.
Therefore, in terms of innovation, this project will promote a change of habits towards sustainability within the club itself, and a raising of awareness among the users of the fields, swimming pools and other sports facilities and equipment. In addition, it is expected that thanks to the implementation of the pilots, new data will be obtained from the daily management of a club or a sports facility.
This project is closely related to another sustainability and sports project called PlayGreen , which we also lead. If you would like to be part of the network of sustainable sports entities that we are creating or, simply, would like to know how it works, we encourage you to fill out the sustainable sports entities form here .
Ecoserveis participation
At Ecoserveis we coordinate the efforts of those responsible for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) of 5 European football federations in order to define indicators, identify grassroots clubs and ensure the proper functioning of the tools and the visibility of the results.
