On 15 September, the European project POWGEN will hold its final conference at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels, with the event also available online. The conference will bring together European institutions, public authorities, social organisations and renewable energy stakeholders to discuss how migration policies, labour market inclusion and the green transition can be better connected.
Organised by Grupo ABD and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), the event will address a key challenge facing Europe: responding simultaneously to the growing skills shortage in green sectors and the need to create quality employment opportunities for migrants and people from diverse backgrounds
Presenting the results of POWGEN
After two years of collaboration, the conference will showcase the results of pilot projects carried out in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany. These pilots have explored new approaches to supporting migrants’ access to jobs in the construction and renewable energy sectors, helping to foster labour market inclusion while addressing the increasing demand for skilled professionals.
In Spain, Ecoserveis and Grupo ABD have implemented the pilot alongside CIDIS (Italy), CRESCER (Portugal) and Pro Arbeit (Germany).
The event will also present the project’s policy recommendations for local and regional governments, aimed at promoting more inclusive public policies that link the green transition with social inclusion and employment.
A European forum for dialogue
The conference will feature representatives from the European Committee of the Regions, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME) and Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENERGY), as well as the Government of Catalonia, APREN, MedCities, Regione Campania, ALDA Migration Hub, FAMSI, New Women Connectors (NWC), the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP), and other organisations working in the fields of energy, social inclusion and territorial development.
The event will provide a platform to exchange experiences, identify good practices and discuss how public policies can help ensure that the energy transition also creates quality jobs and reduces inequalities.
