A meeting to strengthen the climate community
On April 24th, the national Climate Pact event was organized by Ecoserveis, as coordinators at the state level. The session was dedicated to the Pact community, that is, ambassadors and partner entities, and aimed to discuss the ambassadors’ new books and publications in order to promote climate action, collaboration and strengthen the sense of belonging to the Climate Pact community. In Spain, we have 108 ambassadors and 6 partner entities, being one of the largest communities in Europe.

The session, with 18 in-person and 8 virtual participants, was framed by an institutional welcome by the European Commission Representation in Barcelona, 3 round tables and an interview.
The conference addresses the climate crisis from geopolitics, culture, health and economic transition.
The first round table studied the role of international law in the climate crisis. The moderator was Nadia Jaity and the members of the panel were Teresa Fajardo ( La protección del medio ambiente y el desafío climática, 50 años después de la Declaración de Stockholm ), Karla Zambrano (“Las migraciones climáticas y la Unión Europea”) and Darío Salinas (“Water Scarcity, Climate Stress, and Peacebuilding in the Tigris-Euphrates Basin: Comparative Evidence from Iraq and Syria”).
The debate incorporated notions of geopolitics, the use of natural resources as a weapon of war, the coverage of international law in the climate crisis, as well as current European laws on climate migration and the need to approve new legal frameworks that respond to the needs of current migration flows caused by climate disasters.
The second round table discussed how to address the climate crisis through art and AI, fostering new perspectives. The moderator, Isabel Silva, featured Jesús Martínez Linares and his play ¡Elegimos la Tierra! , José Segarra with his comic 2050: El reto verde. Europa en Viñetas and Alfonso Peña “Transformación de espacios urbanos apoyada en AI generative de imágenes para el co-design en mitigación y adaptación clima”. In this table, the purpose was to address the climate crisis from different, more innovative and artistic perspectives, with the aim of reaching more groups (such as students) and through the incorporation of tools that create sensitivity and a greater impact on the recipients.
The interview that followed the second panel dealt with health in a world of climate emergency and had Freyja Pérez as moderator. Elena Codina, with her book Los primeros mil días, held a debate with Freyja about the impact of the climate emergency on the human body, from pregnancy to the first three years of life. The panel discussed plastics, pollution, food and important issues in development from a medical perspective.
La tercera mesa analizaba vías hacia la transición ecológica de la economía. Ramón Vila, moderator, was debating with Judit Alonso ( Shareholders of Change ), María Gálvez del Castillo ( Blue Economy in the Face of the Demographic and Gender Challenge ), Manuel Lira (” Employability and Sustainability: a Necessary Pair for a Better Future”) and Laura Reboul, in this case as a representative of the partner entity UGT, with the Green Collective Bargaining Guide. They discussed how to promote a sustainable economy and what paths can be explored to transition to a greener and fairer economy with the environment, taking into account working people and the need to fight for a sustainable future.
Finally, the session closed with a round of questions from the audience, a thank you to the participants and speakers, and a joint lunch to encourage networking.
